TheStallPage1 TheStallPage2

This month, I’m delighted to share that I have two freelance pieces published! Both are near and dear to my heart because they center on two things I’m passionate about: aviation and obstacle races.

The Stall” was the first idea I pitched to Desert Companion magazine, back in the fall of 2012, and it’s been months in the making.  It began as a 1000-word piece, and DC’s brilliant editor, Andrew Kiraly, decided that it would be amazing in a comic book layout.  After I broke out the key elements of the story, it was up to the illustrator to make it come alive in pictures.  I wasn’t sure what to expect, but Hernan Valencia did a fantastic job.  My only complaint is that I’m depicted as a blonde.  Anyone who knows me knows that I’m traditionally a red head, occasionally an ebony brunette, but never, ever a blonde.  Oh well! :)

Run ’til it hurts (or bleeds)” is all about obstacle racing – and the fact that Vegas is becoming a very appealing venue for these types of mud runs.  It was a fun article to write, and I’m thrilled that there are more opportunities to do these races locally.  It gets expensive traveling around the country to get bruised and dirty.

I’m working on another piece that will be coming out in March.  Stay tuned!

  1. Congrats on getting these 2 articles published! I think the comic book style came out quite nice.
